National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain Invites 12-18 Year Olds to Open Day

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) has announced its Open Day 2026, which will take place on Friday 10th April 2026. The event will offer young brass and percussion players a unique, fully immersive experience with one of the UK's leading youth ensembles.

A Free Day of High Quality Music-Making

Open to musicians aged 12 to 18, the NYBBGB Open Day is completely free to attend, with advanced registration required. During the day, young brass and percussion musicians will have the chance to:

  • Work with world-class tutors in sectional rehearsals

  • Play alongside current members of the NYBBGB

  • Take part in full ensemble rehearsals

  • Perform in a short concert at the end of the day

Learn from Leading Names in Brass Banding

Participants will be coached by an impressive line-up of tutors drawn from the top level of the brass band world:

  • Cornets: Richard Marshall (former Principal Cornet of the Black Dyke Band) and Tracey Lloyd (Professional Trumpet and former Soprano Cornet of the Foden's Band)

  • Flugels & Horns: Siobhan Edwards (Black Dyke Band)

  • Trombones: Paul Kiernan (Whitburn Band)

  • Euphoniums & Baritones: Mike Cavanagh (Black Dyke Band)

  • Basses: Matthew Routley (Black Dyke Band)

  • Percussion: Sam Milton (Brighouse and Rastrick)

The day will culminate in a short performance conducted by Nicholas Childs, offering participants the rare opportunity to perform under on of the most respected figures in the brass band world.

A Gateway into National Youth Brass Banding

The Open Day is designed not only as a learning experience, but also as an introduction to the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain itself. So, if you or a young person you know is interested in auditioning, but would like a taster session to see what the organisation is all about - this is for you!
