Cory Band Announce Details for Side-by-Side Scheme for Young Musicians

A Chance for Young Musicians to Learn from the Cory Band's Musicians

After a successful inaugural year, the Cory Band have announced the details of their 2024 Cory Academy/RWMCD Side-by-Side scheme. This unique program provides a valuable chance for young, talented brass and percussion musicians to gain firsthand experience by participating in rehearsals with the Cory Band.

What is the Side-by-Side Scheme?

The Side-by-Side Scheme is specifically designed for students in the UK who are in year 11, 12, or 13 and have achieved Grade 8 or playing at equivalent standard. Those selected will join Cory Band members during their practice sessions at their bandroom in the Rhondda. This is a fantastic opportunity offering an immersive experience for aspiring brass musicians, who want to know what it's like to play for a champion band and learn from some of the best brass band musicians in the world.

Speaking to It's Not a Trumpet, Musical Director of the Cory Band, Philip Harper said:

“We started the scheme last year to try and attract more young, talented brass players to Wales to study at RWCMD and become part of the brass band scene here. It's a beautiful part of the world and the college offers a brilliant study experience. And then, of course, there are the fabulous bands!
We hope that taking part in a rehearsal with Cory Band will be inspirational and memorable for the participants, and might put Cardiff, RWCMD and the Welsh band scene on their radars as they make decisions about the next stage of their lives"
