New leadership marks a pivotal moment for the Brass Bands England's future growth and national impact

Brass Bands England has announced the appointment of Sarah Baumann as Interim Chief Executive Officer, signalling a significant step forward, as the organisation enters a new phase of development.
The move follows a transitional leadership period led by Nigel Stevens from January through to the end of April 2026.
Who is Sarah Baumann?
Sarah Baumann steps into the Interim CEO role after more than six years with Brass Bands England, having joined the organisation in early 2019. Most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer, she has been at the heart of the organisations growth and evolution.
During her time at BBE, Baumann has led on key areas including programme delivery, partnerships, fundraising and operational development. Her leadership has helped to shape many of the organisation's most impactful projects, earning her a strong reputation across the brass band sector.
Alongside her work with BBE, she also serves as Chair of Trustees at Youth Music Charity, AMP, underlining her wider commitment to music education and participation.
Leadership Backed by the Sector
BBE Chair, Mike Kilroy praised the appointment, highlighting Baumann's progression within the organisation and the trust she has built during her time at BBE:

Her progression from joining the organisation in 2019, to now stepping into the Interim CEO role is a reflection of both her personal growth and the trust she has earned across the organisation and wider sector. His work will centre on enhancing the value proposition for both bands and individual members, with an emphasis on improving retention, increasing engagement and building new partnerships across the brass, music and events sectors.
