Submit Your Nominations for the 2024 Brass Bands England Awards

Know a band or individual whose work deserves to be celebrated? Now is your chance to nominate them for a chance to win one of Brass Bands England's 2024 awards!

Brass Bands England have announced that they are now accepting nominations for their 2024 awards. These awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals and bands, as well as projects and initiatives within the brass band community. From inspiring the next generation of brass band musicians and promoting environmentally-conscious activities to spearheading innovative projects, the 2024 awards offer many opportunities for the efforts of extraordinary bandspeople and projects to be recognised.

New Changes for 2024 Awards

This year, BBE have introduced several exciting changes to the awards ceremony, reflecting the evolving landscape of brass banding and the commitment to sustainability.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, a prestigious accolade recognizing decades of dedication and service, will now be independently selected by a distinguished panel of experts.

Additionally, the inaugural Green Hero Award aims to spotlight individuals and organisations who have created projects and initiatives to enable their band to become more eco-friendly.

2024 BBE Award Categories

The 2024 awards are distributed across 6 categories:

Band Project of the Year

This award celebrates bands or individuals who have delivered an exciting project over the course of the last year. Whether this project has been something original that promotes brass banding to a wider audience (either locally or nationally), progressed a band to help it reach its goals, the result of a successful collaboration or any other activity that deserves special recognition, this is the opportunity to celebrate it!

Brass Band Conductor of the Year (supported by the BBCA)

Know an inspiring conductor who has has a significant positive impact with the bands they have directed? Someone who has gone the extra-mile to deliver an outstanding musical experience for the band and its players? Celebrate their efforts by nominating them for this award!

Green Hero

A new award for 2024, the Green Hero Award is for those individuals who have made climate awareness and environmental sustainability a key focus within their banding practice. Activities could include raising funds to make their band's premises more eco-friendly, efforts to make banding projects and performances more sustainable or commissioning music and projects to raise awareness of the climate crisis.

Outstanding Contribution

This Award is intended for an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to their band, whether that's musically, through band organisation or community engagement. Another potential candidate could be someone who has shown great commitment and dedication or overcome challenges within the banding community.

Services to Youth

Without a younger generation of brass musicians, banding will simply cease to exist in the future. This award celebrates an individual who has made a huge positive impact through supporting or promoting youth music through dedicated commitment over a lengthy period of time. This award cannot be awarded to the same person twice, so please bear this in mind when nominating!

Young Bandsperson

This award is open to bandspeople aged 18 and under, who have made an outstanding contribution to their band either musically, through community engagement or band organisation. The candidate will have shown great commitment, dedication or overcome challenges.

How to Nominate

Nominations can be made via the form on Brass Bands England Awards web page- click here to vote.

Following feedback from the ceremony at the Brass Bands Conference last year, BBE have added a request for a photo of the nominee to be used in promotion, should they be shortlisted.

The deadline for nominations is midnight on Monday 13th May 2024.

Shortlisting

The awarding panel will be made up of selected Brass Bands England trustees and senior staff. The shortlist for Band Project of the Year Award will then go to public vote, giving the banding community and its audiences the chance to have their say.

Awards will be presented in a special ceremony at this year’s Brass Band Conference, held on Saturday 19th October at the China Exchange, London.
